How to manage humidity and water in my bathroom

If you want our wood flooring to work in your bathroom, you will need to manage the amount of water and humidity it’s exposed to. You should also avoid using wide solid oak boards.

humidity

To key to managing humidity is to make sure that your bathroom is well ventilated. This will ensure humidity that builds up when hot water is run dissipates quickly. Most modern bathrooms or ones that have been recently refurbished will have effective extraction fans. If you have an older property that steams up easily, ventilation will be something that you’ll need to think about at the same time as wood flooring. Cracking a window will do the trick.

water

Managing the amount of water your wood flooring is exposed to is also simple. Use mats when you get out of the shower or the bath, pick up wet towels and mats after use, check for leaks to stop water pooling on the floor, and wipe up water after bath time. Basically, don’t leave water on the surface of your wood floor. Water that soaks in will cause stains or expansion.

How to choose the right floor for my bathroom

The good news is that all our floors can be installed in a bathroom if you follow the guidance above. This means you can choose any of our fabulous finishes to create whatever style you want. The only restriction is board size since 200mm solid oak boards are not suitable.

If your want wider boards, our Strata Engineered Oak flooring can be used in bathrooms. It comes in widths up to a majestic 300mm. Bear in mind though that bathrooms are typically smaller rooms, so classically proportioned parquet or narrower plank floors are a better choice as they’ll make the space look optically bigger. They’re also naturally more stable solid wood flooring options due to their smaller dimensions.

So when it comes to colour and style, the choice is entirely yours, but if you want a suggestion, our Vintage Parquet with its softly worn edges is a particularly good contrast to sleek tiles and sanitary ware. Our gorgeous Old House oak flooring with it’s cross sawn texture is an absolute delight to walk on barefoot, as are our Brushed and Burned Oak boards with their authentic reclaimed style.

We hope that we have inspired you to choose our beautiful wood flooring for your next bathroom project. If you have any questions we haven’t answered above, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
