Designing with Dark Wood Floors

Dark wood floors are a longstanding designer favourite used to create luxurious eye-catching interiors. Discover the qualities that give them such impact and how you can incorporate them in your own spaces.

Designing with Dark Wood Floors
DELICATE DEFINITION

Dark wood floors define the space in a room in a way that lighter floors cannot; they make a feature of it and allow it to play a much greater part in the overall design scheme. This doesn’t mean that they limit choice or overshadow the rest of furnishings, far from it. If paired with lighter walls and furnishings or richer tones and textiles, dark wood floors become a dynamic part of a room’s décor.

CHARACTER & INTIMACY

Dark wood floors add character to a room in the same way as a beautiful fireplace or staircase. At the same time, it brings intimacy and warmth, is always tactile and has no risk of looking or feeling ‘cold’. The same can’t be said of other darker flooring options such as stone or tile, which is one of the key reasons designers choose wood to create darker floors in both residential and commercial spaces. That and the fact that they create much better acoustics!

INHERENT LUXURY

There is a sense of luxury and stylishness that is intrinsic to darker wood floors that is really quite unique. It is hard to explain quite why this is, but that doesn’t make it any less true. Whether you choose something sleek and contemporary like our Grosvenor Oak, or something altogether more rustic such as our Clasico Dark, darker wood floors bring a touch of the opulent that is difficult to replicate with any other floor.

SURPRISING VERSATILITY

Those in the know have discovered that a dark wood floor creates a fabulous versatile platform for a whole range of exciting interior styles. They don’t make a room look dark unless it’s dark anyway, in which case they can be used very cleverly to create a space that feels intentionally cosy and intimate. And remember, not all darker floors feel dark – our Dark Oak flooring is dark in tone but light in feel, with a wonderful satin matt finish that reflects the light and is one of our most popular shades.
