Magnetree Magnetic Wood Flooring FAQs

Read simple, plain English answers to the most common questions we are asked about Magnetree: our innovative magnetic wood flooring installation system that enables you to remove and relay your wood floors without damaging or contaminating the subfloor beneath.

Magnetic wood flooring laid in an office.

Magnetic wood flooring has a thin magnetic film applied to its underside. We call this Magnetree and it is used in place of adhesive to fix the floor to a magnetically receptive sub-floor. Our Magnetree installation system also uses track-loc technology to enhance the magnetic film on a proportion of the floor to make it easier to fit and more resistant to traffic over the long term. We call this Magnetree Plus.

Magnetic wood flooring is designed to be removed and relaid without damage to itself or the subfloor beneath. This saves both cost and resources, improving and encouraging sustainable construction.

Magnetic wood flooring can be easily taken up to access metal raised access flooring panels and the services beneath and then relaid just as simply.

It facilitates easy reorganisation of office layouts over metal raised access panels as well as quick and cost effective repairs of any damaged flooring with minimal waste.

Magnetic wood flooring is laid over a magnetically receptive subfloor. This must be dry, level and dust free. Plank floors are laid from the edge of the room, and parquet floors from a crown line in the centre of the room, in the same way as when they are laid using adhesive.  As with other wood flooring installations, an expansion gap must be left around the perimeter of the room.

For detailed guidance on installing our magnetic wood flooring, see our Magnetree Installation Guidelines.

To enable magnetic wood flooring to be easily taken up, the tongue & groove profile on a small number of boards or blocks must be adjusted so that they can be lifted vertically with suction cups from above.

Most manufacturers require this to be done on site by the fitter, which is fiddly and time consuming at best. Broadleaf provide access kits comprising pre-machined planks or blocks that are ready to be slotted into place, and marked with an invisible UV stamp so that they can be easily identified at a later date with an inexpensive UV torch and quickly removed.

Anyone who is competent to fit a wood flooring using adhesive should be able to fit our Magnetree magnetic wood flooring as long as they follow our simple installation guidelines.

Our technical team are on hand to answer any questions or site specific queries.

Almost all of them. Our Quintessential Engineered planks, Quintessential Parquet and Solid Vintage Parquet are all compatible with our Magnetree Installation system, so any of our floors that are available in these formats can be supplied as a magnetic wood floor.

This gives you over 100 different finishes to choose from, in a wealth of different styles and shades.

Yes. Our Magnetree magnetic wood flooring will need to be acclimatised for 7-14 days in order to adjust to the particular atmospheric conditions of the space where it will be installed prior to fitting. Click here for more information about acclimatisation and why it is necessary or see our Magnetree Installation guide.

Ideally, all other building work and decoration should be completed before wood flooring is laid, but we appreciate that this is not always possible.

If other building works are carried out after the wood flooring is fitted, use Ramboard or a similar recyclable, breathable professional card floor protection. Do not use a plastic floor protection product such as Correx, as this will cause the floor to sweat underneath it which can damage both the finish and the floor itself.

Make sure that when floor protection is taped together (to prevent dust working its way beneath it and damaging the floor finish) the tape is only applied to the floor protection and not the floor.

We do not currently recommend that our Magnetree installation system is used over underfloor heating. Whilst our wood flooring is tried and tested in this situation, and can be successfully installed in line with our Installation Guidelines, tests on the impact of underfloor heating on the efficacy of magnetic grip are still ongoing.
