Finishing your floor
Wax Finishes
Oils and waxes are soft finishes that render timber impermeable by blocking its pores and create a natural looking finish that will develop a rich patina over time if maintained with natural floor wax.
Although these finishes are not 100% resistant to stain (ink or red wine spills left overnight can permeate even the best of them) and may scratch more quickly than lacquer finishes, their big advantage is that they look better rather than worse over time.
Small areas of wear or scratches can be locally repaired quickly and easily, either with regular maintenance product, or with sandpaper and a rag full of oil or wax if they are more significant. For the most part though, the marks of day to day wear will improve rather than damage the look of the floor.
We believe by far the best soft finish available is our own Broadleaf Hardwax Oil. It combines oils and waxes to create a tough, hardwearing, natural looking finish that is specifically designed to cope with the demands of modern living. It is easy to apply, simple to maintain and its quick drying formula means that the 2 coats required can be applied in a single day. Broadleaf Hardwax Oil is available in Satin Matt and Matt options.
If you wish to colour timber, there are a range of wood wax finishes in the OS range which can be used under the Hardwax Oil.
